Bob Blackburn, Oklahoma Historical Society Executive Director, will present an evening on The History of Council Grove which is a three-square mile area west of Oklahoma City that has a deep history as a piece of the Unassigned Lands. In the 1800s, Council Grove, a grove of cottonwood, elm and oaks, was inhabited by the Creek Nation and many of the Plains Indians. The land was set aside as one of the first timber reserves to be used for the building of Fort Reno at the end of that century. The presentation, hosted by WesTen District and Castle Falls, will be on Thursday, October 17 beginning at 7:00PM at Castle Falls’ Grande Hall, 820 N MacArthur. There is no charge, but registration is requested at https://thehistoryofcouncilgrove.eventbrite.com
